Andreas Giavroutas is a nature photographer and musician. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with photography?
I hate to be bored. I’m a musician and despite that I’m looking for other ways to fill in time in a creative way; photography is on of them.
How important is having a unique style as a photographer? How would you describe your style?
It is very important to be distinctive and unique in your style in order for people to be able to pick out your work by recognising its unique character. Unfortunately, I’m kind of new to photography (“two years old”!), so I don’t think I have found my style yet… Still experimenting!!
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Cyprus. What I “carry” with me from a younger age is a sense of doing stuff I actually like instead of doing stuff because others would like them.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers out there?
Break the rules. Do what you want!
Have you ever run out of ideas?
As a friend photographer told me at some point “photographs are everywhere”(@stefanos_kouratzis); so I find it impossible to say I have run out of ideas…
How do you find places and models for your shootings?
I don’t really look for places or models. I go out and take a camera with me, at least twice a week!
What’s the one piece of photo gear you couldn’t live without?
Just the camera really! …you could substitute a tripod if it didn’t exist with a table for example; or the flash with a lamp (not quite the same thing but you could work something out!), filters with post-edit… (It’s not ideal to substitute them but I could definitely leave without them…)
Do you edit your photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes. Lightroom and Photoshop.
We would like to express our gratitude to Andreas Giavroutas for this great interview.
