Andy Swann is a Melbourne based photographer who try to capture street & urban views that is not often seen.

How did you fall in love with photography?
I used to ride bmx. I had a pretty nasty crash and managed to snap my collarbone in half. I wanted to stay in the scene and hang with friends that I’d ride with so I bought a camera. The rest is history.
How important is having a unique style as a photographer? How would you describe your style?
It’s super important. With so many other photographers out there, ou need to do what you can to stand out. My style is very street and urban, often opting for views not often seen.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in the western suburbs of Melbourne. I think constantly being in the city has helped me develop a really street/gritty style.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers out there?
Never stop shooting, never stop exploring and connect with other photographers. There’s so much to learn just from shooting alongside other like minded people.
Have you ever run out of ideas?
Sometimes I feel like i’ve hit a dead end and then I realise there’s so many ways to explore the ideas I’ve worked on.
How do you find places and for your shootings?
Searching through Instagram for locations is a massive help, but sometimes you have to
put in the hard yards and just go out and follow your eyes.
What’s the one piece of photo gear you couldn’t live without?
I couldn’t live without a good sturdy strap. When it comes to climbing things and moving swiftly I need to know my camera is stuck on me.
Do you edit your photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
I use Lightroom to edit my photos and occasionally photoshop.
