Cassandre Girard is a model, actress and a survivor from Koh Lanta,Thailand. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
I got bullied because I was overweight when I was a teenager and I wanted to prove them wrong. I wanted to show them that I was still pretty despite being curvy.
How were you discovered?
A small modelling association in Sounth of France was on the hunt for new faces for a Hairdressing show, I got picked and that is how it started.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
They are so many different photographers. They all have different ways of finding what makes you special and portray it in their shots. I guess all the shoots are interesting because you get to learn how each and every one of those photographers work. You learn something new about yourself every time.
How would you define your personal style?
I am very natural. Less is more and that is usually the kind of style I choose for my different photoshoots. Except when I am shooting for High Fashion and get metamorphosed from head to toe.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up pretty simply and very independently. Lived in a small country town in the middle of nowhere and role played in my garden until I was 15. I wasn’t very self conscious about anything until I started becoming a woman. That is when I knew I could express myself with the art of photography and with the effort and style I was putting in the way I dressed.
Who is your style icon and why?
I definitely don’t have one style icon per say. I love art, fashion, cinema … I want to let myself be inspired by all the amazing artists there is out there and not just limit myself to one.
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
Like I said above, I don’t have a favorite photographer per say, but I do love Mario Testino’s work. He is one of the few that works with literally everyone. And obviously, his Towel Series is just to die for.
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
To stop thinking that being a model is being famous on Instagram and look exactly like all those Instagram / Youtube bloggers that have a tone of make up on their faces.
Be yourself, stay natural. Beauty is found within, remember that.
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
I only edit the photos I take myself with my iPhone and I usually use an app called InstaSize because it helps me maintain that little white square that we all look for on Instagram.
When it comes to professional photos, they usually have their own editors or sometimes even the photographer edits the photos himself. Those photos are the property of the photographer or the brand you’ve worked for, so it is actually illegal to edit them/make any change to them once they are given to you.
We would like to express our gratitude to Cassandre Girard for this great interview.
