Chanelle Soncini is a super model from South Africa. She’s also a candidate of Miss Asia Pacific International!
I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
Honestly I don’t even know how my love for modeling started. I was young and all I knew is that I wanted to model. After doing modeling for a while I realized I loved pretty much everything about it.
How were you discovered?
I partook in a local competition in Pretoria (my hometown) where my first agency (Fanjam) scouted me. 🙂
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
Hmm there are so many, all my shoots are so different, but I’d have to say when I shot for Curvessence- which is a lingerie brand in Australia. The whole experience is what made it interesting!
How would you define your personal style?
I pretty much wear whatever I feel like. I don’t have one specific style, however black is definitely my go to colour/ uniform. I wear whatever makes me feel good and whatever I’m in the mood for. I’m always trying to find new pieces to mix and match with though! However I do prefer to keep things more simple.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Pretoria, South Africa and unfortunately people in Pretoria aren’t very daring in terms of style. There’s a standard feel and one generally sticks to that to avoid standing out. It took me a few years to realize I didn’t want to conform to “boring” haha. Once I got into modeling and saw a new style, that’s when I began to try out new personal styles regardless of what other people want to think. Fashion is exciting okay! 😉
Who is your style icon and why?
I don’t actually have a style icon… is that bad? Haha! I’d probably say it’s instagram haha – let’s make that a thing. I follow some cool accounts and when something catches my eye on my newsfeed I take notes. 🙂
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
Wow. The first person to photograph me was Fanie Nel, and let’s just say he left a lasting impression so I always compare to him. Iv been doing this for years and I’m yet to shoot with someone better than Fanie Nel. I just love his work!
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
I would say to start when you’re mentally ready. I started young and in this industry you will experience plenty of criticism which can truly destroy your confidence if you haven’t got a thick skin. Learn to love yourself regardless of what the industry tell you and never stray from that. Also, remember that people will either love you or hate you and when they don’t like your look and ask you to undergo surgeries to change something about you, put your foot down because you’re unique and that’s you!
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes I do! Who doesn’t haha! I use Facetune and Snapseed – they’re great!
We would like to express our gratitude to Chanelle Soncini for this great interview.
