Daria Nelson is a retro, stylish lady from Paris. She is a model, photographer, and a retro enthusiast. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
I was just passionate by vintage clothes and retro style and tried to recreate that sophisticated image of the woman in 40’s/50’s to motivate other girls and to let them know that we can be that beautiful and glamorous as women half a century ago if we will make some efforts.
How were you discovered?
I am not represented by any agency yet, still searching for good agency for alternative or vintage models.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
I guess it can be shooting for Muslim brand “Rezeda Suleyman”, when we worked 8 hours long and I was super worried about the result and honored the same time because I was chosen as a model and muse for this collection.
How would you define your personal style?
Retro inspired.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Ukraine, in Kharkiv, answer I always wondering if one day I could really dress up as I wish and if I’ll have forces to start being myself. It finally happened when I was 24 (last year) and I think that’s the biggest step I did for all my life.
Who is your style icon and why?
Marlene Dietrich, because this woman is just a perfection (even if she has defaults).
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
I can’t choose one, as I love both Jeanloup Sieff and William Klein. They changed their epoch with their vision of the woman and did it in so elegant way.
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
Never lose hope and never stop working.
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
I use photoshop for little imperfections, VSCO and Lightroom sometimes
