Dasha Smi is a model, writer and traveler who grew up in Siberia. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
It always was my dream and passion. And One day 9 years ago I met scout of model agency in Russia. After 6 years of work in Siberia I signed contract with agency in Beijing – and that was the best decision in my life. Since this trip I live abroad – 2 years in Shanghai and now almost one year in Bali.
How were you discovered?
I just was curious and came in model agency office in my hometown Irkutsk and at this first meeting they signed a contract with me.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
I love all my magazine shoots but one the favorites was cover for calendar Mercedes Benz Siberia and shooting for social commercial against breast cancer All over China
How would you define your personal style?
I am a mix of romantic girl and madcap boy
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Siberia. And always avoided school rules in uniform. I have never been afraid to express myself. As I was a daddy’s daughter – I used to wear boy’s outfits and after started to mix it with sexy girly dresses.
Who is your style icon and why?
I do not have icon, coz I like to mix different styles : elegant, romantic with heavy boots and leather jackets . Mostly I like to watch backstage photos of street style FW in Europe. I like crazy, daring and weird outfits.
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
My favorite photographer is Mario Testino and Patrick Demarchelier. Mario have done scandalize amazing shots for lots of magazines, I love his ideas and center light on pictures. And Patrick he is god of portraits , simple, beautiful, with personality of model and history, not just a pretty face.
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
Be critical to yourself. Develop yourself and work hard on your body, appearance and intellect. Never think that if someone give u job or u sign contract – that it means that u are on the top already. This model world is unstable. Today u can work for Dior and tmr can fell down. Be ready , that before success you will get bunch of refusals.
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes I edit. Usually I use VSCO, Snapseed .
