Dave is more commonly known as his nickname – travel alias Jones! He is originally from Southern-California, but has made long-term travel into a lifestyle. He has lived in 6 different countries. You’ll most likely find him on a tropical beach, at a music festival, or anywhere else I can get a cold beer.
I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with photography?
It started out as something I did to make my travel blog more appealing. I wanted to fill destination guides and itineraries with stunning photos, so I finally bought a DSLR for around $450 (which I thought was SO much at the time, lol).
How important is having a unique style as a photographer? How would you describe your style?
I think it’s really important, and can be crucial to your branding. For me, I definitely love playing around with a very different techniques – but I personally love softer tones, yet still really colorful shots.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I’m from Orange County, California – but I’ve been living abroad since 2011. I really don’t think it’s had an impact on my sense of style at all.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers out there?
Never stop learning and trying new techniques. Watch youtube tutorials, and go out and practice! Practice makes perfect, so the more you get out there, the better you’ll get.
Have you ever run out of ideas?
Ehh, not really? Sometimes when I’m at a location, I have this feeling that there’s an EPIC shot that I just can’t think of though…Shit happens, lol
How do you find places and for your shootings?
Instagram and Travel Blogs mainly.
What’s the one piece of photo gear you couldn’t live without?
Hmm…well right now I’d probably say my Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. It’s a GORGEOUS lens, and I’ve been having tons of fun with it this year.
Do you edit your photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes, I use Adobe Lightroom.
We would like to express our gratitude to Dave for this great interview.
