Jaime Simpson is a published model and a dancer.   I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;

How did you fall in love with modeling?

I fell in love with modeling after I was asked to do my first photo shoot. At first I was a little hesitant but when the process began and I really got the opportunity to express myself and my style through my pictures, it became an addiction! There are so many little ways to express yourself through modeling and that’s what I love so much about it.

How were you discovered?

I always loved dance. I loved the culture behind it and the way that you could make other people feel what you are feeling through it. What I really enjoy however is creating a story in pictures of my dancing. A professional photographer noticed my sister and I playing around with a camera on the beach and invited me for a professional shoot with his brand. After publishing the pictures, a wave of more offers came in. (offers for things besides dance) I stepped out of my bubble and realised how many different ways you can make a statement through pictures. It became an obsession instantly!

What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?

One of the most interesting (and fun) shoots that I have done was one that was captured at SCAD. (Savannah College of Art and Design) I worked with a few dancers And we shot photos throwing flour and powder, jumping and turning through the air. I had a blast!

How would you define your personal style?

Very urban and laid back with a touch a girly and athletic here and there!

Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?

I grew up on the edge of the water. (Ocean to be exact) I grew up in a big city at the same time. It’s always brought out the summer street look in me. It’s different but It’s part of who I am and I love that.

Who is your style icon and why?

I don’t think I could ever group my style inspiration into one person. For generations we have had so many beautiful people that inspire individuals to be who they are and put themselves into their style.

Who is your favorite photographer and why?

There are so many talented photographers but my absolute favourite is Jordan Matter and his dance photography. He makes photography into a fun game with his 10 minute photo challenges nd the pictures always come out AMAZING! Not to mention how entertaining the process is!

What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?

Never change who you are for the sake of the shoot or the photos. Use what you love about yourself to your advantage and never forget what you want people to see when they look at your photos. Always use what inspires you to inspire others!

Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?

Yes! I use photoshop occasionally but when I don’t have the time, I hop on VSCO and add a cute filter.
