How did you fall in love with modeling?
I’ve always been fascinated with modelling, especially during my University years when I was helping one of my friends with one of his photography projects and I agreed to be one of his models. I became fascinated with being able to portray a different character in front of the lens and really tell a story. I started to really get into modelling after I became more involved with the fitness industry.
How were you discovered?
I wouldn’t say I’ve been ‘discovered’ yet, but I have managed to cultivate and grow my brand over the last few years. Instagram and other social media platforms have really helped me reach across to different people from different industries (such as photographers,musicians, etc).
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
I’d have to say one of the most interesting shoots I’ve done was when I had to shoot with a snake inside a club a few years ago (when I was just dabbling into modelling). I had my hair in this crazy updo and this snake that was draped around my shoulders decided to bury itself inside my hair. It took the snake trainer a while to pull the thing out. I don’t think I’d shoot with a snake anytime soon!
How would you define your personal style?
I’d say that my style is a blend of urban chic, with mix of street and glam. I love tees with slogans, high waisted pants/shorts, oversized denim jackets, leather jackets, Nikes, oversized croptops, and heels.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Edmonton, Canada. No, I can’t say Edmonton played a significant role in influencing my style. Most of my style was developed over the years, mostly from observing magazines, my love for hiphop, and possibly when I was living in New York.
Who is your style icon and why?
My style icon is Audrey Hepburn. It’s not so much as to what she wore, but how she wore it. She was so classically chic, elegant and graceful- she could make a potato sack look like art.
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
One of my favorite photographers I’ve worked with is definitely Ashlee Krutzfeldt. She taught me so much and was one of the very first person to encourage me to pursue modelling. She has such a unique style and can make anyone look like a super hero.
A photographer who I would love to work with one day is Mario Testino. His ability to capture so much raw emotions and different moods is amazing.
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
Know who you are, never compromise yourself, values, and integrity for anything in the world. Modelling isn’t as glam as the media makes it out to be, so always have a strong head on your shoulders and don’t do anything you feel pressured to do.
