Joffray Duda is a travel and landscape photographer from France. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with photography?
I started photographing a little late, and quite by accident, eleven years ago. I was volunteering in a drama group and, since no one was taking photos during the representations, I decided I’d do it. I sfumbled around at first, but then I developped a passion for it and started learning more. I did a whole lot of research to get better, and in the end learned to push back the limits of my first camera (a D3000) and of my own creativity (eg: the Eggs projects that can be found on 500px). At first, I would shoot anything and pay attention to jot down the settings, because I did not use any software to organize and edit my photos, back then.
Turning to travel and landscape photography came naturally everytime I went on trips; then, in 2014, when I decided to leave everything behind to travel, I decided to dedicate myself solely to travel photography till to day.
How important is having a unique style as a photographer? How would you describe your style?
It’s particularly hard to describe one’s style of photography. The guiding principle of my work is in natural landscapes throug my journey. I particulalry like very colourful places, but only with two to three colours in them, not more. I believe my style can be found in the colours and the composition of my photos.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grown up in France near Paris. Unfortunatly I don’t think my roots influenced my style of photography.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers out there?
Photography is a very hard work, so never give up, and always try to do better every time. When you are to confident I think
Have you ever run out of ideas?
Yes and no.
How do you find places and models for your shootings?
I’m travelling around Asia and Oceania for 3 and half years now, so I find the inspiration in everything around me, and that, everyday witch is pretty cool.
What’s the one piece of photo gear you couldn’t live without?
My must have equipment, apart from my camera and lenses, is my tripod. I mostly take photos in ISO 100, and now in ISO 50 to minimize as best I can the noise in my pictures. Without a tripod, a lot of my photos would turn out blurred, and failed.
Do you edit your photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes, I edit my pictures in Adobe Photoshop L ightroom 5 mostly.
We would like to express our gratitude to Joffray Duda for this great interview.
