Kristin de la Renta is a makeup artist, hair stylist, content creator and a model from Tampa, Florida. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
I was discovered by a hair stylist at 17 and pulled into a beauty shoot that became the cover of a local magazine. I’ve since studied fashion, music and makeup artistry. Modeling has always been as much a part of my world as breathing.
How were you discovered?
A hairstylist discovered me at 17. A few years later a fashion photographer in South Beach found me on social media. The rest is history.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
It was a fine art project with a photographer in Los Angeles that involved me laying in raw meat. A LOT of raw meat! The concept was called ‘A Piece of Meat’ by Joe Rubenstein.
How would you define your personal style?
I’d say I’m punk rock chic, depending on my mood.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I grew up in Tampa, FL on MacDill Airforce Base. My father is Puerto Rican (from the Island) and also grew up in the South Bronx. He always had wicked style and taste, so I presume it rubbed off on me. There’s always that sense of city and edge when it comes to my style, or it just doesn’t feel right. Lately, I like it with a dash of boujie lol!
Who is your style icon and why?
Alexander McQueen. End of story.
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
Helmut Newton. His work is so sensual and balanced with an elegant tastefullness to it. It’s almost a tasteful erotica at times.
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
Read my blog post on Modeling 101. Don’t pay agencies. Understand image usage and releases.
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
I do at times. I use Facetune and Vsco.
We would like to express our gratitude to Kristin de la Renta for this great interview.
