Liz Saloka is a published model and originally a software engineer from Baltimore, MD.  I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;

How did you fall in love with modeling?

I was a Wet Seal Model Search winner in 2015 and knew I enjoyed modeling after doing a photoshoot with them. I was going to school for computer science and loved the idea of breaking the stereotypical mold of women in STEM. I’ve been using modeling to show girls that you can be interested in things like modeling and have a STEM career. You CAN do both!

How were you discovered?

The Wet Seal contest really opened my eyes to modeling and I knew I wanted to continue to do it while in school. I joined an agency not long after and balanced my school workload and modeling. School always, always came first. My story is a bit unique- I wasn’t really discovered, but was motivated to do something and made it happen.

What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?

Oh gosh, where do I begin?! I’ve had so many fun and interesting shoots. One of the most interesting wasn’t really a shoot- it was a music video. That was REALLY fun, being able to see all of the work that went into it.

How would you define your personal style?

Honestly, it really depends on the day. I’m usually casual chic or a bit more on the sexy side. A crop top and shorts is my ideal warm-weather casual outfit.

Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?

I grew up just outside of Baltimore, MD. I lived in a more suburban area, so I wasn’t really surrounded by highly fashionable people. Clothing was more functional than fashionable. This probably influenced the casual part of my casual chic style.

Who is your style icon and why?

I love Beyoncé’s style, I mean who doesn’t?! She’s always trying new things and killing it.

Who is your favorite photographer and why?

I really like Mario Testino’s work. His photos visually appeal to me.

What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?

Go for it! Nothing is stopping you from doing your own shoots- set up a camera and some lighting and you are good to go. Or, have a friend take some photos of you. If you really want to get into modeling, don’t let anything stop you. Once you feel it out and know this is something you really want to do, look in to working with photographer and agencies.

Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?

Not really. The photos that I take I make minor edits to, such as lighting or contrast, but nothing major.

We would like to express our gratitude to Liz Saloka for this great interview.
