How did you fall in love with photography?
Needed a moment for myself every day… started taking pictures of sunsets… then I started looking for ways to take better pictures of sunsets and every day I kept pushing to get better.
How important is having a unique style as a photographer? How would you describe your style?
I feel it’s kinda like finding who you are… as an artist you define yourself through your work… you show elements of yourself… characteristics of who you are and what you are battling with…. you see sometimes what someone is looking for other times people discover things about themselves who they are or things they didn’t realize. I like dark and contrasts where the light is used to direct the eye. I also like looking for interesting dynamic compositions as I walk around.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
Anza, CA… A tiny town in the mountains. Well I’m not scared to hike around and find a shot but as far as my sense of style not as much… I’m very in love with the ocean and water and where I grew up most of my childhood was the high desert.
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers out there?
It’s not about the camera… you can take a great picture on anything it’s just up to you to see the beauty… through your unique lens we call eyes… If you want to get good study what you are lacking… look to get better and while nice equipment may help get certain types of shots… you take the picture and need to learn to see it and take it… and get out of auto mode.
Have you ever run out of ideas?
Everyone does just walk around look somewhere new… drive somewhere new… look at pictures from different photographers… look for different takes…
How do you find places and for your shootings?
Talk to landscape photographers… but I mean Google… or just always keep your eyes open looking for unique places.
What’s the one piece of photo gear you couldn’t live without?
Canon FD 50mm f1.4
Do you edit your photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
Yes adobe photoshop and Lightroom as well as Adobe CC mobile… Snapseed…
