Ksenia Ilkun is a beautiful model, life style & travel blogger, also content creator. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview;
How did you fall in love with modeling?
I always liked to be on photos since I was a small kid. I don’t remember any photo without me, always was jumping into the shot.
Before my first proper shoot with real photographer, I was taking photos by myself with a help of a timer, a lot of bloggers still doing it, you know. Was using everything I had in order to create something ‘unique’. Now when I look at those pictures I smile and think: ‘Oh my… How stupid that looks…’, but I remember every photo.
The main reason why I love to be a model is to try on different roles, meet different people with unforgeable experiences and create something beautiful together.
How were you discovered?
That’s an interesting one… To be honest I still believe that my day still coming 😉
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
I had one back in London, interesting and disappointing at the same time.
It was a shoot for fashion video. We were shooting for the whole day, 8 am – 9 pm, with one more guy as a model for 3-4 conceptual clothes designers. The idea was awesome and that is why I agreed on TFP basis.
The idea of a video was about male a female who blend into each other. Female becomes a male and the other way. I started as a very feminine, girly-girl and up very straightforward, hard woman. Guy, the other way around, and in the middle of the movie, there was a moment, when we are the same in our movements and emotion…hard to explain but I hope you got the idea. We had ton of fun while filming. It was very challenging, awkward but truly awesome!
Why was it disappointing? Because I never got the video or photos from that day 😀
How would you define your personal style?
I am not considering myself as a trendy person. I would say elegant but cozy, with a pinch of sexy.
Where did you grow up? How have your roots influenced your sense of style?
I was born and raised in Latvia.
I think that being in the school with kids from wealthy families helped me a lot if talking about the style (I am from a middle-class family, and got there because I passed the tests quite good). We had ‘unspoken rule’ in our class – you can’t wear the same clothes 2 days straight. Sound harsh? It was, but I never mind about that, it was a challenge and I liked it.
Now I don’t have a lot of clothes, probably all of them including shoes will fit in the middle sized suitcase, but I always knew how to mix match.
Who is your style icon and why?
I don’t have one. There are so many Instagram bloggers right now who I follow and love their style, but no one in particular.
For inspiration, I usually look at the outfit in general. A mixture of textile, details, prints, colors, and forms. But I would never copy paste a look. I think that way all the fun will be lost.
Who is your favorite photographer and why?
First who I thought of in @dantom. I just think he’s GOD of photography. His every photo is filled with emotions, stories, and crazy vibe.
When I am browsing on his profile I get goosebumps…<3
What advice would you give to aspiring models out there?
Never underestimate yourself! And that advice is not only for models.
Do you edit your own photos? If yes, which programs do you use?
If I worked with photographer, than no, only color palette so it fit my Instagram.
If the photo is mine: Photoshop or Lightroom, Snapseed and I have few favorite filters that I use in VSCO.
We would like to express our gratitude to Ksenia Ilkun for this great interview.
